Understanding the Basics
What Are Veneers?
Veneers are cosmetic dental prostheses that are typically made out of a durable porcelain material. They are matched to the color of your teeth, and are designed to fit over the front surfaces of your teeth to cover up cosmetic problems with your smile, such as gaps in your smile or stained teeth.
However, they are not meant to restore damaged teeth, such as teeth that are severely decayed or have been broken due to dental trauma. In addition, while veneers can be used to correct slightly-crooked teeth, they are not a good option if you have very crooked teeth or bite problems. You may need treatment with Invisalign or braces before you get veneers.
The Benefits of
Veneers have a wide variety of benefits. First, they are one of the most versatile cosmetic treatments available. Because each veneer completely covers the front of a tooth, you can correct almost any problem with your smile using veneers.
They are also very durable and strong. Veneers will usually last at least 10-15 years with proper care, so your smile will look beautiful for years to come. To care for your veneers, all you need to do is brush twice a day for two minutes and floss once a day. You should also see Dr. Jones every six months for a teeth cleaning.
Finally, veneers provide fast results. In just two short appointments over a period of 2-3 weeks, you can completely restore your smile and feel confident about how you look once again.
The Veneers Process
After you’ve been approved for veneers, Dr. Will Jones will schedule your veneer preparation appointment. At this appointment, Dr. Jones will clean and numb your teeth, then use a dental drill to remove a thin layer of enamel from each of your teeth, in order to make room for your veneers.
Once your teeth have been trimmed, Dr. Jones will use dental trays and putty to make impressions of your teeth. These will be sent to a dental lab where your permanent veneers will be made. It will usually take 2-3 weeks for your veneers to arrive at our office, so you’ll get a set of temporary veneers to wear, and you’ll be sent home.
You’ll come back for your final appointment when your veneers arrive at our office, and Dr. Jones will check each one to make sure they fit perfectly. If everything looks good, your veneers will be bonded to your teeth permanently using dental cement, completing the procedure.
